About Us

The Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad Historical Society was founded in 2009 by a group of people who were interested in preserving and sharing the rich history of the railroad. Over the years the Society has striven to provide as much information as possible through our quarterly publication, the Roustabout, and by annual conventions. Both methods are allowing us to share information gathered by members and others, information that might otherwise not be readily available.

The annual conventions have been held at a number of cities along the Lackawanna lines, so that attendees have the opportunity to view the historical locations associated with the railroad.

The Society has also produced several special publications, such as a reprint of the 1856 newspaper article announcing the opening of the DL&W, a history of the DL&W during WWI for the centennial history of the ending of the war in 2018 and a reprint of the 1914 Safety Bulletin published by the railroad.
